Driving Up The Coast From San Diego

Driving Up The Coast From San Diego

There are two ways for Handsome and I to get home from Temecula, CA.  We could take the faster somewhat boring freeway route.  Or, we can take the freeway in to San Diego and drive up the coast to Orange Country.  Handsome and I will always choose to take the scenic Highway 1 coast route home.  For two reasons. One, it’s beautiful and we’re lucky enough to live by the Pacific ocean.  Two, there are always cute little shops that we stop at along the way.

Our first stop: Torrey Pines Gliderport

It’s amazing to watch the Paragliders and Hang Gliders run off the side of the cliff to soar among the birds.  Sadly, the weather wasn’t cooperating and there was no one sailing in the beautiful blue sky.  Did you know that since the late 1920s sailplanes have been gracing the bluffs just north of La Jolla {right behind the campus of University of California, San Diego}?  If you are ever in the area stop by.  Or if you have the guts, take a class and take flight!

Our second stop: Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial.

“The mission of the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association is to create and maintain a monument that pays homage to veterans who have honorably served our country and to educate the public on the contributions of military personnel throughout our nation’s history. Shimmering black granite stories tell a tale of honor and sacrifice for the greater good upon Mt. Soledad.”

The memorial is quite moving and a beautiful tribute to those brave men and women who have served our coutry.  I am honored to say my father served in the Army and I can’t wait to see his Veteran Plaque up on this memorial.  The views are breathtaking from the memorial.

Our third stop: Timeless Furnishings & and Patio.

We were traveling through Solana Beach when all of a sudden I saw the most adorable shop on the opposite side of Driving Up The Coast From San Diegothe street.  We made a U-turn and in we went to look around.  They have a wide range of furniture {home, office and patio} , lighting fixtures, and accessories.

Driving Up The Coast From San DiegoHandsome fell in love with a beautiful Teak Patio table that seats 6 and extends up to 10.  We left, but Handsome couldn’t get that Teak table off his mind.

We are now the proud owners of this beautiful Teak table {it is currently in storage awaiting it’s debut in our soon to be renovated back yard}.

Go take a look, you won’t be dissapointed.  Tell Heather, Mary from Its All About The Pretty sent you!

Driving up the coast is always interesting.  You just never know what you will find and what you’re going to come home with!

Surprise weekend at Ponte Vineyard Inn

I knew Handsome had planned something special for our anniversary weekend. He told me we were staying local, so I would know how to pack. This year has been extremely hard for both of us. More difficult than either of us thought 2016 would be. This anniversary weekend was going to be our time to forget our pain {or at least try} for a little while, and just be present with each other.

It didn’t take too long to realize we were headed to Southern California’s wine counrty, Temecula. It’s a beautiful place with over 300 acres of mature vineyards and rolling hills. We have been there countless times before {like this time}, but this was different. As we drove closer and closer to our destination I could see the excitment on Handsome’s face.

We arrived! Ponte Vineyard Inn, a quaint 60 room boutique hotel. Ohhh, someplace new! I love going to and trying out new places. As we pulled into the driveway and drove over the gravel parking lot lined with olive trees, immediately I felt transported from my life to a place far, far away with my one true love.

Just looking at the regal wood arched front door makes you know you are going to have a beautiful time.

Upon entry we were greeted by a casual relaxed setting, almost like entering someones home.

Handsome checked us in and I went outside to look at the grounds.  The view is breathtaking!  We arrived just after a wedding was preformed.  The flowers were stunning!

Handsome met me outside with a glass of sparkling wine.  We just sat for a moment and enjoyed the view sipping our sparkling wine and taking in the views.

I couldn’t wait to see our room. As soon as we walked in we were greated by a bottle of their Tempranillo wine.  It was so very kind of the Ponte Inn to have a gift of wine waiting for us.  I knew what we would be drinking with our Anniversary dinner.

The bed! So comfy!

The view from our balcony.  I took this photo just as the sun was going down.  We sat out on our balcony for hours, just talking {my second favorite thing to do with Handsome}.

Surprise Weekend at Ponte Vineyard Inn

We did a bit of wine tasting and suprisingly Ponte Vineyard was the only winery we visited on that weekend.  Their wines are so delicious and their grounds are so spectular there was no reason to go anywhere else!

I found a ton of items I brought back as Christmas gifts!

Thank you Ponte Vineyard Inn.

We had a fantastic time and I know one day we will be back!

Get Your Lipstick to Stay On

Have you ever been out with family and friends having a great time laughing and chatting it up?  You take a moment to go to the restroom, check yourself in the mirror and realize all your lipstick has disappeared?  This happens to most of us all the time.  No one likes to take time out of our busy day let alone a night out to reapply our lipstick every couple of hours.

With the holidays right around the corner, I’ve got a few tips to help keep those beautiful rich colored lipsticks stay on your lips longer.

get your lipstick to stay on

Step One ~ Exfoliate   This is the most important step to getting your lipstick to last.  Exfoliation of your lips removes all the dry dead skin from your lips, so soft supple new skin can grow in its place.  I like using Fresh Sugar Lip Polish every few days.  Or you can use a soft tooth-brush to keep your lips looking their smoothest.

get your lipstick to stay on

Step Two ~ Hydrate   Drinking lots of water is great for your entire body, but it also helps keep the skin on our lips nice and plump.  So drink up!  In the winter months even if you drink your fill of water sometimes it’s just not enough to keep you lips at optimum hydration.  That’s why I turn to my favorite lip moisturizer.  Once I found this product I knew I never would need to look for another lip moisturizer again.  Want to know what it is?  Do ya? It’s Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (it’s also great on your elbows and heels).

get your lipstick to stay on

Step Three ~ Primer   I use to think this was just to get us lipstick wearing faces to buy another product.  Then I tried one and I really noticed the difference.  Right now my favorite is MAC Prep + Prime Lip.  I have definitely seen a difference in my lipsticks lasting longer.  I like that this one is a color-free base, that is also oil-free and fragrance free.

Step Four ~ Lip Liner   I love Lip Liner and use it whenever I wear lipstick.  I can always achieve the full looking lip when I use a lip liner in conjunction with my lipstick.  Choose a lip liner that matches your lipstick.  You never want the liner to look like it is there.   Liner helps keep darker shades from bleeding into the tiny lines around your lips.  My favorites right now are: Clinique Quickliner Lip Pencil, Bobbi Brown Lip Liner, Marc Jacobs Outliner Lip Pencil, & NARS Velvet Lip Liner.

I learned a little trick years ago and have always used it for special occasions (it tends to dry your lips) to make your lipstick last through dinner. Once you outline your lips fill in your lips with the lip liner and then apply your lipstick.

Step Five ~ Lipstick   Apply a coat of lipstick and use a tissue to blot your lips.  Then dab the lipstick once again over your lips.  This will help the lipstick lock right on to your lips.  And don’t forget the finger pull (no, not that finger pull, silly) Place your finger in your mouth, press your lips against it and pull out your finger.  This helps remove the lipstick that would have ended up on your teeth!  Some of my favorites right now… NYX Matte, Charoltte Tilbury Matte Revolution LipstickRevlon Super Lustrous Lipstick.

**Some people like to dust their lips with translucent powder to set their lipstick.  I’m not a big fan of that, it tends to dull the lip color.

Pop of Colour with ColourPop

Looking for Makeup that has great colors, great prices, and you never have to leave home?

Then you need ColourPop in your life!

I had been hearing about this makeup line for some time now and decided to give it a go.  The liquid lipstick caught my eye.  I had heard about all the beautiful shades they offer, plus it’s long staying power.

Without further ado, on to the products…

In all I purchased, 6 liquid lipsticks, 2 lip liners, 1 eyeliner, 1 eyeshadow

Liquid Lipsticks $6.00

Viper: A true dusty rose in an Ultra Matte finish

Times Square: A muted pink beige in an Ultra Matte finish

Baracuda: A warm deepened rose in an Ultra Satin finish

Bianca: Get moves like Jagger in this soft mauve pink.

Are N Be: ARE you ready to BE fabulous in this Rich mauve plum.

Beeper: Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me in this warm mid-tone taupe.

I really like how smoothly the liquid lipstick goes on. The applicator is shaped perfectly, you can get to the very edge of your lip line without going over. It dries quickly and lasts.  I only had to reapply once during the day.

Lippie Pencil (lip liner) $5.00

Oh Snap Pencil: Play it naughty or nice in this pale dirty nude pink

Dopey Pencil: Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho, it’s off to the club you go in this dusty mauve.

It’s a softer lip pencil that goes on very smooth.

Eye Shadow $5.00

Paradox: This cool-toned burgundy red in a Satin finish is gonna throw you into a spiral

The shadow is silky smooth to the touch and goes on like velvet.

Creme Gel Pencil (eyeliner) $5.00

Swerve Liner: Don’t lose control when wearing this true onyx black

I love keeping this liner in my purse to use it as my touch-up liner during the day.  It has a great true-black color.

Some additional facts about ColourPop products:

ColourPop products are made with love in the City of Angels. U.S.A

Most of their products are Vegan. (See list here of the ones that are not)

You somehow break your shadow.  Simply place a tissue over the shadow pot, press down lightly with a flat item and it will be almost as good as new.

Opened shadow will last up to one year when the lid is closed tightly after each use.  3 years if you haven’t opened it all.

PETA approved ~ Cruelty-Free

It’s Beginning To Feel Like Autumn

its beginning to feel like autumn

It’s beginning to feel like Autumn (at least in my head!).

I’m in Southern California where there has been a huge heat wave, lately.  Today, it is suppose to get up to 90 degrees, again (5 days in a row).  That is just too hot for me, even during the summer!  To give myself the feeling of Autumn (inside my home) I have been decorating with pumpkins and Autumn scents.  This heat wave could only last so long, right?

Here is my favorite Autumn look:

ACNE STUDIOS DEBORAH V-NECK WOOL SWEATER $380.00 at Matchesfashion   I’m loving this Camel-beige colored cozy sweater.  The ribbed-knit style with the classic v-neck gives that relaxed silhouette.  Perfect to be worn with a vest or without.

H&M – FAUX FUR VEST – LIGHT BROWN $39.00 at H&M    A faux fur vest is a must have this season.  I love that this one by H&M is lined and comes with side pockets (perfect for holding you cell phone) and has hook-and-eye fasteners to keep it closed in front.

STUART WEITZMAN TIELAND OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS $981.00 at mytheresa   These over the knee boots look great with skinny pants as well as a skirt or romper.

STREET LEVEL REVERSIBLE FAUX LEATHER TOTE & WRISTLET $48.00 at Nordstrom   I have been wanting this versatile tote for some time now.  I think it’s time to go buy this reversable tote.

ELIE SAAB ‘LE PARFUM’ EAU DE PARFUM $98.00 – $125.00 at Nordstrom   “A harmony of white flowers, cedar woods and a drop of honey creates an encounter as feminine as the trail of an evening gown. An addictive, refined fragrance with a Mediterranean spirit. The exceptional in the everyday”.

BURBERRY WATERLOO WATCH $145.00 at TheRealReal   This Burberry watch is the perfect day-time casual watch.  I really like the toggle closure as it adds a bit of fun to any outfit.  It also looks great combined with a chunky bracelet.

VANESSA MOONEY ‘DEMI’ BOLO WRAP NECKLACE $55.00 at Nordstrom   I’m loving this bolo-inspired necklace!  Made of suede, it length is a whopping 72″ (tassels are 2 1/2″).  It’s the perfect necklace to give you that choker-look plus a playfull looking long necklace!

KENNETH JAY LANE CHUNKY SATIN-FINISHED HAMMERED OVAL LINK BRACELET $52.50 at Last Call by Neiman Marcus   The perfect addition to wear with the Burberry watch.

H&M – SLIM-FIT PANTS HIGH WAIST – BLACK – LADIES $19.99 at H&M   You just can’t beat the price on these go-to black pants.

DIAMANTISSIMA RING by GUCCI $965 at Gucci   What can I say…I love this ring!

Is it beginning to feel like Autumn where you are?
