I love the colors of black and white together and those are the colors of my kitchen.  A few years back, Handsome and I changed our backsplash to a beautiful black granite and a white marble rectangle pattern, we fell in love with it from the moment we saw it and knew it had to be our black splash.  The counter tops are Absolute Black granite and my stove top is also black (yes, you could say I like black).  Lately, I have been wanting a pop of color in the area of the kitchen that the stove top is located.  Not knowing how exactly to achieve it, I thought I would keep searching until the right item just popped out at me.

Coke, diet coke, pepsi, sprite, dr. pepper, soda, pop

Who knew I would find the pop of color for my kitchen while I was shopping at Ralph’s {Kroger} Grocery Store?!?  Yes, Ralph’s!  I was walking down the soda aisle when I came upon a display of these unique Diet Coke 12oz glass bottles.  And then it hit me, exactly what my pop of color would be!  When Handsome and I first started dating we loved to go out to brunch, we would frequent one restaurant that would have glass Coca Cola bottles as their salt and pepper shakers and I always thought they were so cute.  With Diet Cokes unique design (no two bottles are alike) I knew this would be the pop of color I had been looking for and they would look great on my counter top!

My New Salt and Pepper Shakers

So in my basket they went.  I picked 4 of my very favorite bottles, but with so many choices, it wasn’t easy!  Once I got home I couldn’t wait to begin.

My New Salt & Pepper Shakers 2 (1 of 1)

The first thing I did was pour myself a glass of Diet Coke.

 I love the refreshing taste!

Then I got started on making my salt and pepper shakers.

Here is how I did it:

My New Salt and Pepper Shakers

  1. Throughly clean and dry the bottles.
  2. Gently removed the bottle cap from the bottle making sure not to stretch out the cap, so it will snap back on tightly.
  3. Use any small item that you can place the bottle cap on to drill the holes.  I used the top to a sprinkler head.
  4. Place a piece of tape over the top of the bottle cap and mark where you want the holes to be.
  5. Drill the holes in each cap.  I put 4 on the salt and 3 on the pepper.
  6. Fill the bottles with salt and pepper using a funnel.
  7. Snap the caps back on to the bottles.
  8. Then proudly display your unique colorful new salt and pepper shakers!

** If you stretched out the cap when you removed it from the bottle and it doesn’t snap back on tightly, use a bit of hot glue around the outside top of the bottle to secure the cap back on.  It’s easy to remove the cap when you need to refill the bottles, then just repeat with the hot glue.

Coke, diet coke, pepsi, sprite, mountain dew, squirt, canada dry

Don’t they look great?  The perfect POP of color that area needed.

My new obsession… Periscope!

I can’t stop watching it, I can’t stop talking on it!  I’m still not 100% comfortable, but I’m loving every darn minute!

Periscope is one of the fastest growing new social media platforms for Smart Phones!

You may be asking, what is Periscope?

Periscope is an App that allows you to view and do live videos broadcasts from and to anywhere in the world.

I for one love it because those who are watching you live can ask questions and make comments in real time.  You can also send Periscopers love in the way of hearts that stream up the side of the screen, to do this all you need to do is tap on the screen.

So do you want to know how to use it?  Do Ya?

First you need to download the App.  You can do that here for IOS, and Android here.

When you open the Periscope App, you can log in with twitter or your phone number.  I recommend you using your twitter account.  If you have more than one Twitter account you get to choose which one Periscope is attached to.

To Broadcast:

It is so much fun to broadcast live what you are doing in the moment, share your experiences with others from all over the world.

It is easy to do, just the press of a button and you are live.  Your followers will be instantly notified through twitter you are broadcasting and they can tune in. They can also invite their twitter followers to follow you.

To View:

Just imagine this just for a minute: you can watch someone surfing in Australia…then switch over and watch someone taking a hot air balloon in Napa Valley, CA…then switch over and watch a concert in Milan, Italy. All while making comments, asking questions, and sending hearts!  Isn’t it all incredible?

Want to see who is currently broadcasting?  Just click on the world icon and this is what you will see:

Daisies in a Tea Cup

Daisies in a Teacup

How adorable are these daisies in a tea cup?

Wouldn’t this make a cute hostess gift or a pick me up for a friend who has been down?  It is the perfect little something to show someone you care.

daisies in a tea cup, tea cup

And here is how you do it…

Soak florist foam in water before you begin per package directions.  You can find florist foam at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or any craft type store.

Cut florist foam to fit the tea cup you have chosen.  Have the florist foam a little bit above the cup so the flowers will have some additional height without being all stems.

daisies in a teacup, putting in the tea cup

Cut the flower stems about an inch long.  Start with the row around the cup’s lip making sure you cover the lip of the cup.

Add another row of flowers above the first row.  Make this row a bit higher than the bottom row and keep adding until the florist foam is completely covered.  You should have a dome shape.

You can use any type of flowers you like.  Mixing and matching different flowers in the tea cup would also be adorable.

Simple Shoe Storage

Simple Shoe Storage

I’ve been wanting to organize my shoes into a simple shoe storage solution for a while.  Whenever I buy a new pair of shoes, I just add the box to a shelf in my closet. I hated the way all the boxes were different colors and sizes, and I never knew what shoes were in which box.  It was a hassle going through all the boxes to find what pair I was looking for.

I finally decided to do something about it!

Shoe Storage boxes

While shopping at Hobby Lobby, I found these sturdy boxes that are the perfect size for shoes and low boot storage.  They have several different patterns to choose from.  The size I decided to purchase is 13 3/4″ X 5 1/2″.  Depending on the shoe, you may be able to fit 2 pairs of shoes per box.

Shoe Solution pic monkey

Once I had purchased all the boxes the shoes would go in, I took an individual  picture of all my shoes.  I then used the free online photo editing program PicMonkey to put 4 shoes per page, so I could then print out the images.

Shoe Storage pictures of shoes

Once the shoe pictures were printed, I cut each shoe picture out individually.  I then adhered each photo to the front of each box

and placed the shoes in their corresponding box.

And there you have it, an organized simple shoe storage solution!

Disclaimer: I am/was not sponsored by Hobby Lobby, I just found the perfect size pretty boxes for my simple shoe storage solution.

How to Clean Your Make-up Brushes

How to clean & condition your make up brushes:

Do you know how to clean your make-up brushes?  This is a technique I learned years ago from a make-up artist.

It’s really important to clean your make-up brushes once a week.  There is bacteria that can grow on your make-up brushes.  If you don’t clean your brushes you are re-applying that bacteria to your face, and that is icky!

How to make a Live Christmas Wreath ~ The Easy Way!

An Inexpensive Live Christmas Wreath!Live Christmas Wreath Every year I purchase a Live Christmas Wreath that I hang on my front gate.

They are pretty expensive and keep going up in price every year.  So I thought to myself, self, I know you can make on for a ton less.

Do you want to know how much this Live Christmas Wreath cost me, Do you?

 Exactly $2.00 plus tax!

You may ask, How could that be?

I used some items I always have, a hot glue gun and ribbon, and cutting of plants from my garden.  I went to a Christmas Tree Farm and asked for the scrap branches they cut off the bottom of the trees, {they were happy to give them to me}

The items I purchased, a very sad looking fake wreath and a tube of Christmas Ornaments at the .99 Cent Store.

That’s it, that is all you need.

Christmas Wreath in progress

Here’s How you do it:

Materials

Artificial Green Wreath, from the .99 Cent Store preferably.

Fresh Greens, from a Christmas Tree Farm or Lot and your back yard

Hot Glue Gun and extra Glue Sticks

Christmas Ornaments and/or other Christmas Decorations

Ribbon for a Bow

Once you have all your items:

Cut apart the tree branches into several small clipping you can use.

Cut garden to the same size.  I used Rosemary.  It worked great and smelled wonderful.

Hot glue cut Christmas Tree branch clippings on to your wreath, first.  Making sure they are all go different directions working your way around the wreath.

Now is the time to add the other greens you have picked out, again, working your way around the wreath making is even on all sides.

At this point shake your Live Christmas Wreath to make sure all the greenery is secure.

You can also purchase a pre~made bow or make it yourself using ribbon.  Secure the bow on to the wreath with a piece of wire.  I used a loaf of bread twist tie.

Now hot glue the Christmas Ornaments or decorations liberally so they will stay in place.

Make sure there are no hot glue strings hanging around.

Enjoy!

P.S. They also make great gifts, the recipient will be wowed by your talent!

Don’t throw the wreath away at the end of the Christmas Season.  Just remove all the greenery and decorations off the wreath and store for next year.

Now there is no reason for you not to have a live Christmas wreath handing on your door!

Until Next Time…

XOXO

Coffee Bean Votives

Don’t you love the smell of coffee?

Coffee Votive

I always take a deep breath when I walk by the coffee grinding machine at the grocery store.  And don’t get me started about the wonderful smell of coffee houses, especially like this adorable one that roasts its own beans.  Nothing is better than a freshly opened bag of coffee beans.  The smell is just heavenly.

 Is that weird?

I figured out how to get that beautiful smell right in my own home and at the same time freshen the air.  We all know that lit candles take odd smells out of the air for us, even the ones we can’t smell.  You know, the household smells we are accustom to, but guests can smell, we all have them!

Coffee Votives two

I found these adorable fluted brioche molds at World Market.  They are the perfect size for this easy peasey great smelling Coffee Bean Votive.

Just find a container you like, a mason jar, a coffee cup, a ramekin, anything that goes with your decor, fill it up with coffee beans and nestle the votive right in the center.  When you light the votive the warmth from the candle will send a subtle aroma of coffee that will waft around your home.  You can even use different flavor coffee beans for a change.  Hazelnut would be a great scent.  Espresso would be a stronger scent.

Coffee Votive frameWith all the upcoming holidays, tomorrow might be a great time to start using these cute Coffee Bean Votives.
