Favorite Fall Home Decor

Yay!  It’s finally Fall!

Favorite Fall Home Decor

While some people can’t wait for summer, I long for it to be fall all year long!  The leaves are finally falling, there is a crisp chill in the air (not so much in Southern California, but hopefully soon), and I’m decoring my home for this glorious season!  I love the ease of fall decorating; soft cozy blankets, faux pumpkins, and cute pillows make it simple to bring autumn into your home.  Lately, I’ve been scouring the internet for some new decor and I’m so excited to show you what I have found. If you fall in love with any of these items like I did, you can buy them right from the affiliate links (FYI, I will receive a small commission).

Driving Up The Coast From San Diego

Driving Up The Coast From San Diego

There are two ways for Handsome and I to get home from Temecula, CA.  We could take the faster somewhat boring freeway route.  Or, we can take the freeway in to San Diego and drive up the coast to Orange Country.  Handsome and I will always choose to take the scenic Highway 1 coast route home.  For two reasons. One, it’s beautiful and we’re lucky enough to live by the Pacific ocean.  Two, there are always cute little shops that we stop at along the way.

Our first stop: Torrey Pines Gliderport

It’s amazing to watch the Paragliders and Hang Gliders run off the side of the cliff to soar among the birds.  Sadly, the weather wasn’t cooperating and there was no one sailing in the beautiful blue sky.  Did you know that since the late 1920s sailplanes have been gracing the bluffs just north of La Jolla {right behind the campus of University of California, San Diego}?  If you are ever in the area stop by.  Or if you have the guts, take a class and take flight!

Our second stop: Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial.

“The mission of the Mt. Soledad Memorial Association is to create and maintain a monument that pays homage to veterans who have honorably served our country and to educate the public on the contributions of military personnel throughout our nation’s history. Shimmering black granite stories tell a tale of honor and sacrifice for the greater good upon Mt. Soledad.”

The memorial is quite moving and a beautiful tribute to those brave men and women who have served our coutry.  I am honored to say my father served in the Army and I can’t wait to see his Veteran Plaque up on this memorial.  The views are breathtaking from the memorial.

Our third stop: Timeless Furnishings & and Patio.

We were traveling through Solana Beach when all of a sudden I saw the most adorable shop on the opposite side of Driving Up The Coast From San Diegothe street.  We made a U-turn and in we went to look around.  They have a wide range of furniture {home, office and patio} , lighting fixtures, and accessories.

Driving Up The Coast From San DiegoHandsome fell in love with a beautiful Teak Patio table that seats 6 and extends up to 10.  We left, but Handsome couldn’t get that Teak table off his mind.

We are now the proud owners of this beautiful Teak table {it is currently in storage awaiting it’s debut in our soon to be renovated back yard}.

Go take a look, you won’t be dissapointed.  Tell Heather, Mary from Its All About The Pretty sent you!

Decorating for Christmas

Happy Decorating For Christmas Season!

How fast did this year fly by?!  Thanksgiving is over and now it’s time to start thinking about Christmas and all that goes with it, including decorations.  I know many people like to put their Christmas decorations up the weekend of Thanksgiving.  And then, there are the stores, who seem to put up Christmas decorations around Halloween.

I myself, like to take down my fall decorations Thanksgiving weekend and give myself a breather before the Christmas decorations go up.  So this weekend is the weekend my decorations go up.  I did however go up into the attic and pull the decorations down so I can go through them and see what I need to replace or add.

There are so many Christmas decorations I love, I thought I would share with you some of my favorites from my favorite stores. Want to know the best part?  Many of the stores already have their Christmas decorations on sale, so no need waiting to get your favorite items after the holiday is over!

When your family and friends come to visit you need a beautiful wreath greeting them at the front door.  I fell in love with this one from Pier 1 Importsdecorating for ChristmasJust yesterday, I was at a very high end garden store in Newport Beach, CA and they were selling very similar wreaths for over $100.00!  I think this is a deal at $37.46!

Pier 1 Imports also have this Pinecone Garland I fell in love with.

My Obsession With My Bar Cart

When I was growing up, our family home had a formal living room that was only used on holidays and when my parents entertained.  Located in one corner of the room was a bar cart that was fully stocked.  I always loved that bar cart.  The crystal decanters and the fine cut crystal glasses glistened in the light of the room and the rainbow of colors they made danced off the avocado green curtains.

As a child, I always thought the adults looked so elegant drinking their alcoholic beverages, men with a high ball glasses and ladies with their martini glasses.  There were no bottles of beer anywhere in sight.

My Obsession With My Bar Cart

When decorating my home, I wanted to add that same elegant memory of my childhood home.  For several years I have been looking for the bar cart that catches my eye and I finally found it.  I fell in love with it for many reasons, the first, is it comes with two removable trays that can be used with or without the cart, I really enjoy that feature.  The trays are covered in leather and have french inspired embroidered wine labels, they each also have two metal handles.  The cart is on casters which is perfect to be able to wheel the cart to which ever room Handsome and I are entertaining in.

 Bar Cart, beverage holderI did have a custom piece of glass cut for each tray, I thought it would keep the embroidery and the leather nice for a long time.

My Obsession With My Bar Cart 2 (1 of 1)

“I have a bilevel oval brass bar cart that was my grandmother’s, which I adore.  There’s nothing quite like being able to roll an entire mini bar up to where you’re sitting – especially if it’s in bed.” – Mary McDonald, designer

My Obsession With My Bar Cart 3 (1 of 1)

If you like this bar cart and would like it in your home I got mine here.

What memory from your childhood home did you bring into your now home?

Studies have shown that just a few specific houseplants throughout your living space can rid your home of harmful VOCs like formaldehyde and xylene.  Most people don’t realize the air quality inside our homes can often be worse than outside our homes.

Peeps Bunny Flower Arrangement

Peeps flower arrangement, pinterest Have you ever seen this adorable spring time Peeps flower arrangement?

Well, if you go on Pinterest, you have!  All last spring I kept telling myself I was going to make one, then spring came and went and it was too late.  So this year, as soon as I saw peeps, I bought 2 boxes and went to work.

Here is the items I used…

Glass Cylinder ~ The large one that holds the peeps.

Small Glass ~ For the one that holds the flowers.

These Peeps and these Peeps.

Marbles ~ To hold the flowers in place.

I purchased the flowers at Trader Joe’s.

Here is how I did it…

Place the smaller glass inside the larger class cylinder.  Place the bottom row of peeps (what ever color you like) between the walls of the two glasses.  Now place the second row of peeps on top of the first row.  Don’t be afraid to squeeze them into place.  Add a small handful of marbles to the glass that will hold the flowers.  Carefully add water to the inside glass about 1/2 way full.  Cut flowers to the desired length and add the flowers to the water.

Nothing says spring like a peeps floral arrangement.  It’s so easy and rather inexpensive to make.

Happy spring!

Thanksgiving Succulent Centerpiece

Pumpkin succulent on display http://www.itsallaboutthepretty.com/Want to make a Thanksgiving Succulent Centerpiece today, that will look as pretty and fresh on Thanksgiving?

My friend Julie, was telling me about a class she attended at a local garden store.  In the class she made a Thanksgiving/Autumn table centerpiece.  She explained the base of the centerpiece is a pumpkin, and the flowers adorning the pumpkin are succulents.  She showed me a picture of hers, it was stunning.  From the direction she gave me, I decided give it a try.

The reason the arrangement lasts so long is you never cut into the pumpkin.  Leaving it in tack ensures no rotting for the duration of the Autumn season.

I decided to use one of the mini pumpkins. Since I was going off memory and didn’t want to spend a lot on the items, just in case it didn’t turn out well.

Pumpkin succulent with moss http://www.itsallaboutthepretty.com/

Remove all soil from succulents.

Pumpkin succulent dry fit http://www.itsallaboutthepretty.com/Dry fit your succulents, then glue them in place

Pumpkin succulent direct view http://www.itsallaboutthepretty.com/

Here’s how I did it.

Items Needed

Pumpkin {the cinderella pumpkins look very pretty with succulents}

Moss

Succulents {as many as needed to cover the top of a pumpkin in a variety of colors}

Pods, Seeds, Nuts {optional}

Tacky Glue {clear}

Spray Adhesive

Directions

1. Clean pumpkin.

2. Spray the top of the pumpkin with the spray adhesive.

3. Add approximately 1/2 inch worth of moss to the top of the pumpkin.

3. Clean all soil off of succulents.

4. Place large ones first in the center, using Tacky Glue to keep them in place, in the moss.

5. Add smaller succulents and pods, etc. to fill in.

It’s that easy!

Keep your Thanksgiving centerpiece looking beautiful all season.  Place your pumpkin on a placemat or a plate to protect the furniture you’re displaying it on.  Keep pumpkin in a bright location, indoors or outdoors.  Avoid direct sunlight for long periods of time.  Mist with water once a week.

The beauty of this arrangement…When you no longer want to display it.  Just cut the succulents off with a butter knife under the moss and place them in your garden.  They will continue to grow.
